Theatre by the Lake, Keswick 2019

Eric spent a very enjoyable summer in Keswick during 2019 playing One-Round in “The Ladykillers”, Mr Boo in “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice” and Julian Touchweston-Smith in “Dear Uncle”.

“The Winter’s Tale”

Eric appeared in this 2016 production at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton directed by David Thacker.  He doubled as Antigonus and the Old Shepherd - exiting pursued by a bear and immediately re-entering searching for some sheep!

Oldham Coliseum Theatre. 

Since leaving Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 1987 Eric has appeared in 26 different productions at the Oldham Coliseum.  These are just a few.  Harry in “Saturday Night at the Crown”. Mannie Bernard in “Simply the Best”. Sarah the Cook in “Dick Whittington”. “Oliver!”

Eric has played the role of Mr Bumble 4 times in his career.  This image is of him performing “Boy for Sale”  at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, a production which starred Oscar winner Ron Moody in his last appearance as Fagin.

”Young Apollo”

Eric played the role of Jack Strachey in this musical biography of the life of First World War poet Rupert Brooke written by DJ Mike Reid and premiered at the Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead. .  The show was directed by Hugh Wooldridge.  Here Eric is pictured with the cast playing croquet in the garden of Mike’s Surrey home.

“Lennon’s Banjo”

Eric Starred as Barry - a Beatles obsessed tour guide in Liverpool who believes he may know the whereabouts of John Lennon’s priceless but missing banjo.  Adapted from a film script in which Eric appeared in 2009 this show was a big success at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool in 2017. Pete Best - the 5th Beatle - appeared as himself at several performances and got a standing ovation from audience members some of whom had travelled from New Zealand, South Africa and Norway specifically to see him.

Eric played the iconic role of Bottom as part of the 2013 Stafford Festival Shakespeare season at Stafford Castle.

“ART”​

Eric appeared as Yvan in a national tour of  Yasmina Reza’s acclaimed play - “ART” starring alongside Damian Williams & Ben Roddy. This was one of several tours Eric worked on for Bruce James Productions, the others being “Charlie’s Aunt” and “”Doctor in the House”

Eric as Henry in the world premiere of Jim Cartwright’s play, “The Ancient Secret of Youth and the Five Tibetans” at the Bolton Octagon Theatre in 2015.  With Denise Welsh and Tom Mannion.”

David Wood/Whirligig Theatre

Eric is very proud to have worked on several occasions with the wonderful children’s playwright, David Wood OBE.  Productions written or adapted by David for either his own Whirligig Theatre or Clarion Productions include “The Selfish Shellfish” (National Tour)  “The Witches” (​Duke of York’s Theatre, London & National Tour) “The Meg & Mog Show” (Arts Theatre, London) and “Noddy”. (Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith & National Tour)

Happy End - Theatr Clwyd.

Eric appeared as Baby-Face in this prohibition era musical by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht.  The show played a month long run at the beautiful Theatr Clwyd in Mold, North Wales and toured in the company's wonderful mobile theatre across Wales and the Welsh/English border.  



 


Roughly following the same story as "Guys & Dolls" the actor/musician production was directed by Pete Rowe with musical direction by Greg Palmer, both of whom Eric has worked with on many occasions over the years. 

”Gaslight”

One of Eric’s favourite roles over the years was that of Inspector Rough in “Gaslight” by Patrick Hamilton.  He is pictured here with old chums Mark Chadderton playing Mr Manningham and Siobhan Finneran playing Mrs Manningham at the Millgate Theatre, Delph. This was part of a summer weekly rep season with Eric also appearing in Stephen Mallatrat's comedy "Touch Wood & Whistle"

"Mr Wonderful" - JB Shorts, Manchester

Eric was delighted to take part in this season of short plays written by television writers and which has become a hugely popular feature of the Manchester Fringe Theatre calendar.
